

Regardless, it’s all very much in the same vein of family entertainment and the cast, both the new faces and returning ones, in Carrey and Schwartz, are solid and seemingly comfortable in their respective contributions.

Frankly, they could have edited out the entire destination wedding scenes which would have brought things right into focus. At a hair over two hours, it’s simply too long. Now, to be clear, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 doesn’t tap into the fish out of water, heartwarming charm of its predecessor but, it goes for a bit more mainstream adventure, bringing in a world threatening device and a few new characters. And, as with the first film, I actually found myself somewhat entertained. Interestingly enough, as with the first film, I had absolutely no expectations that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was going to make for something worth my time. I wouldn’t say that Sonic the Hedgehog is destined to be the next animated film classic but, it’s good-natured family fun that makes for an entertaining evening with the kids. Jim Carrey really taps into his inner crazy, in a good way. I rather enjoyed the cast, including the voice performance of Ben Schwartz. I found it had just the right amount of heartwarming charm while adding the type of adventure and humor that makes for pitch perfect family entertainment. The fish out of water plot works quite well and the storyline is spirited and appropriately deferent. It seems to remains faithful to the character while adding a sort of contemporary flavor that rarely feels overtly campy. To be honest seeing the trailer for this film didn’t leave me hankering to see it.Īfter sitting down with it I was pleasantly surprised.
